Helsinki Festival ended on Sunday
The Helsinki Festival ending on September 2 attracted a total audience of 264 000. The outdoor exhibitions were further seen by about half a million people. By the time the festival ended it had sold 64,800 tickets. The Helsinki Festival culminated on Sunday with a free day at the Huvila Festival Tent attended by 5,000. The free Kinopiha cinema in the Lasipalatsi square, the open-air art exhibitions, the Las Meninas sculptures in Esplanadi Park, Our Land! in the Lasipalatsi square and 1,000 Families at Tokoinranta added life to the cityscape.

In addition to free events the festival’s development projects for this year focused on theatre, dance and circus, and features such as the Flow and the Poetry Month events. The big top of the Collectif AOC circus from France in Meripuisto Park was sold out for all nine shows. The Stage festival at the Korjaamo Culture Factory provided a broad survey of new European theatre. The big audience magnet on the Night of the Arts, held this year for the first time on a Friday, was The Field, an acrobatics display high in the air on poles by Strange Fruit from Australia.

The next Helsinki Festival will be held on August 15-31, 2008.
